A doctor home visit means a licensed doctor comes to your address in Mauritius, examines the patient and treats them on the spot — no waiting room, no hospital trip. One number covers the whole island, day and night: 86121. We answer 24/7, 365 days a year, and dispatch the nearest available doctor to you.
Everything is agreed clearly on the phone before anyone leaves — no waiting room, no surprises at the door. Since 2016, more than 80,000 families in Mauritius have used this service.
Not every medical problem needs the same answer, and it matters that we say so plainly. A home visit doctor is the right choice when the problem cannot wait but is not life-threatening, or when the patient simply cannot travel. When a life is at risk, minutes decide the outcome and the right call is 114 (SAMU) — never a home visit. Here is how to tell the two apart.
Our doctors attend these situations day and night, across the island:
In all of these, the doctor examines, treats and prescribes at the bedside. If something extra is useful, it can usually be done during the same visit with your agreement: an ECG at home, blood tests taken at your address, IV fluids, an injection, nebulisation, wound care, a medical certificate or a referral letter.
Some conditions are time-critical, and what they need is an ambulance and a hospital, not a doctor visit at home. Call 114 (SAMU) immediately if you see:
Two things we ask you never to do. Do not wait for a home visit "just to have it checked first" — in these conditions the delay costs far more than the visit saves. And do not drive the patient yourself: a private car has no oxygen, no monitoring and nobody in the back if things get worse at a junction.
If you are not sure which of the two lists you are looking at, call 86121. Our team will tell you honestly — including when the right answer is hospital and not us.
Booking is deliberately simple. To book a doctor in Mauritius at any hour, one call is enough.
Tell us in a few words who is ill, since when, and what worries you. Then give your exact address — house, flat, hotel room, villa or office — with a landmark if the access is awkward. Keep the line free afterwards, because the doctor may call you for directions. For anything urgent, ring rather than message: a phone call lets our team ask the right questions straight away.
Our vehicles are GPS-tracked, so the team can see who is genuinely free and genuinely close, and sends that doctor rather than the next name on a rota. You are given a realistic ETA on the phone, and we keep you updated if traffic changes it.
The doctor arrives with a full consultation kit: observations, complete examination, diagnosis, immediate treatment where it is needed, then the prescription and clear instructions. An ECG, blood tests, IV fluids or IV/IM medication can often be carried out during that same visit. Medical certificates and referral letters are issued on the spot when required.
Nights work exactly like days: the same number, the same team, the same island-wide cover. A night doctor visit is dispatched from 18:00 to 08:00, every night of the year including Sundays and public holidays. There is no separate night line and no answering machine — 86121 is picked up by a person at 2am just as it is at 2pm. If you want the detail of how 24-hour and night-time cover is organised, we explain it in full elsewhere on the site.
While you wait, a few minutes of preparation save time at the door:
Before leaving, the doctor will tell you plainly what should make you call back — or go to hospital — before morning.
We cover the whole of Mauritius, 24 hours a day. The rule is always the same: the closest available doctor goes, not the most convenient one for us.
Hotels, guesthouses and rental villas are covered on the same terms as private homes, which matters if you are visiting the island and have no local doctor. Older patients being followed at home are covered too — see our dedicated service for elderly patients for visits that are planned rather than urgent.
What the visit includes: the doctor's travel to your address, a full consultation and examination, immediate treatment where it is needed, the prescription, and the instructions you are left with. Any additional procedure — ECG, blood tests, IV treatment — is explained and agreed before it is carried out, never afterwards. Everything is confirmed to you on the phone before the doctor is dispatched, so nothing is discovered at the door, and weekends and public holidays are treated like any other day. For a fuller breakdown, see our guide to home doctor visits and what is included.
Insurance. Billing is cashless with our partner insurers, Eagle Insurance and Jubilee — show your card to the doctor and there is nothing to advance. If you are insured elsewhere, you settle with the doctor after the consultation and receive a detailed invoice plus a medical report, which is what other insurers ask for to reimburse you.
Behind 86121 is a Mauritian service founded in 2016 and based at The Hybrid, Telfair, Moka. More than 20 licensed doctors now work in rotation across the island, day and night, coordinated from that base with a GPS-tracked fleet. Every doctor who rings your bell is fully licensed and used to the whole range, from a feverish toddler to an elderly patient with several long-term conditions.
The record speaks for itself: over 80,000 families served since 2016 and a 4.9-star rating from more than 490 Google reviews. What patients mention most often is simple — a phone that is genuinely answered, and a doctor who genuinely arrives, on a Sunday or at three in the morning.
Unplanned visits are only part of what we do. General consultations, ECG, blood tests, IV treatment, flu vaccination, wound care, hotel visits and medical escort are all available; the full list of our medical services sets out each one. If you would rather read before you need us, our complete guide to home doctor care covers how the service works in more depth, and our contact page has every way to reach the team.
Medical disclaimer. This page describes a medical service and provides general information only. It is not a consultation, a diagnosis or a substitute for professional medical advice, and no treatment decision should be based on it alone. Only the doctor who examines the patient can advise on that patient's condition. If you believe a life is at risk — chest pain, stroke signs, severe breathing difficulty, unconsciousness, uncontrolled bleeding or seizures — call 114 (SAMU) immediately.
We dispatch the nearest available doctor, located in real time through our GPS-tracked fleet, so the wait depends on your area and the traffic. The team gives you a realistic ETA when you call 86121 and keeps you updated until the doctor reaches your door. We never quote an average time we cannot honour.
Yes — every night, every Sunday and every public holiday, with no interruption. The service runs 24/7, 365 days a year, and 86121 is answered at any hour by a person, not a machine. Sundays and holidays are treated exactly like any other day, with no surcharge.
The whole island. Our doctors cover Quatre Bornes, Beau Bassin-Rose Hill, Curepipe, Vacoas, Port Louis, Moka and Ébène, Grand Baie and the north, Flic en Flac and Tamarin on the west coast, and Mahébourg in the south — plus hotels and villas along every coast. Give your exact address when you call 86121.
Yes. Children are among the patients our doctors see most often — fever, ear and throat infections, gastroenteritis and dehydration are all treated at the bedside. If a child is convulsing, struggling to breathe or very hard to wake, call 114 (SAMU) immediately rather than waiting for a visit.
